Definition of synecdoche

Synecdoche
: a figure of speech by which a part is put for the whole (as fifty sail for fifty ships), the whole for a part (as society for high society), the species for the genus (as cutthroat for assassin), the genus for the species (as a creature for a man), or the name of the material for the thing made (as boards for stage)

Use of synecdoche in Haiku:
Well it can be used to describe many object as one or to make a word that has too many syllables something else but keep the same meaning and it can also help with the imagery. For example instead of using Stage, you can use a material that the stage is made of to say stage. Stage is 2 syllables and Wood is one. Wood can mean stage.
