Essay White Tiger , and The Assault

"Some characters in fiction are somehow familiar and naturally believable; others are unlike anyone we have ever encountered. How have at least two writers in your study made exotic or previously unimaginable characters both interesting and credible?"
In fiction, authors can create anything they imagine; from a whole new dimension to whole new species. But sometimes they make their story happen in the normal world and they can let their creativity run through some character. Make them works of fiction that cannot truly exist. But the readers do not realize that those kinds of characters cannot happen in their everyday life, they believe in their existence. The Assault and The White Tiger are works of fiction that shows this very efficiently. They both have characters that are interesting and credible but are not familiar to the readers.

In The Assault the main character, Anton, has experienced a tragedy and does not want to know the truth behind the night were his family’s life was taken away unfairly. His life and personality is very vastly affected by that night but he runs away from the truth. He chooses a job, a wife, and a lifestyle because of his feelings that were created after that night but he keeps on running away from the light and stays into the darkness. This might seem credible but anyone in the world who had something happen to them like Anton would either continue their life normally and trying to forget about it rather than live based on it and ignores it.

Anton is a very interesting character and he is credible at the same time but he is just a work of fiction. The author uses Anton’s words to describe how he is running away from what happened the night of the assault. But he is using Anton’s life decisions and acts to describe how much he is stuck into that night. This is making Anton very interesting but that kind of person in the true world is very improbably to happen. But the readers of The Assault are credible with Anton’s character in the book.

Anton is made special from the rest of the people in the world of The Assault because he is the one who people knows as the the young man who had his parents taken away because of a murder. We do not know anybody like him in our everyday life so we believe that it is possible that somewhere in the world there is someone special like him.

Many people believe in fate but there are no scientific proofs for fate. Anton keeps on meeting these people who are key to finding out the truth behind the night that has changed him. He meets them at random places when he is not even looking for them. This might seem like just a coincidence but it is not possible for someone in real life to be completely dependent on fate. But it is very credible because they all seem like mere coincidences that happen years apart from each other. In the book the author makes fate into a real thing. But Anton is not the only interesting and credible character in the book.

In The Assault Anton is the main character and he is a special one. The main character in The White Tiger is the same. He is a very believable character but impossible to exist in the physical world. The odds are against the existence of a personality like Balram. The inspector who visits his school even calls him The White Tiger; which means he is the different one from the others he is special. The other made us believe that Balram was real when the only reality in Balram is that he is a work of fiction.

Balram starts it the poorest of the cities in India. The odds for him to ever be successful coming from the darkness are so small that impossible in the normal world. He is the only kid that can read and write. He is different from the others and also as he was working in the tea shop he would educate himself. Those are the kind of stuff that sounds credible but impossible. If you are uneducated from the start you have no reason to be educated. You don’t even know how to be educated. And it is impossible for someone that is that badly educated to end up writing letters that are of such complexity. He has become a philosopher from nothing. The author makes us believe in the character by telling us he is a special one from the bunch, he is the White Tiger.

Also it is very hard to get away with murder leaving that many evidence, especially if you are only a driver. If we take in consideration how corrupted India is it is nearly impossible to get away killing someone who is socially higher and richer. This makes the story interesting but at the same and people believe it as if it was a true story. But in the real world this would have never happened. Or the chances are very slim for it to happen. This is why Balram is The White Tiger.

In both the arts of fiction The White Tiger and The Assault, the characters are impossible to exist in the real world we live in. But we do not think of that as we read us belive in their personalities. The authors make it possible by classifying them as special people. Like the White tiger or the one from the night of the assault. They are made apart from normal society.

AD 1 dr dre beats

Ad 1
Music producers work hard every day to make their sounds better. But you cannot hear it all with your average headphone. Most headphones can’t handle the bass, the dynamics, and the details. The music has no feeling.
With beats, you will hear sound the way it is supposed to be heard; the way Dre does it.
There is a thrill in hearing your favorite songs that you though you knew inside out with every single detail added to it. It is as rediscovering all those songs over again. This is what the engineers at Monster aim for, the thrill.
Digital technology allows us to capture every beat, harmonics from instruments, bass, and vocals. But despite this the headphones that comes with your music player does not take full advantage of that. It is sad to see that people use weak ear buds to listen to their music without knowing the difference in quality between high performance headphones, such as the beats and their every day ear buds.
We (Monster), teamed up with Dr. Dre not to design any random pair of headphones, but ones that could literally reproduce the sounds of a professional recording studio. Dr. Dre combined his talents as an artist, and producer with Monster’s founder; an engineer and a die-hard audiophile.

The goal after 3 years of work was to not only make headphones that sound great but can also maintain the quality of sound at high volumes without any distortion. And like a real recording studio, beats blocks external noise to allow the music to come in your ears, as clear as possible.
The Equalizer technology that is found in every of our beats makes them comfortable around your ears. The sponge will reduce the pressure and make the beats by Dr. Dre more comfortable to wear.
Beats by Dre is the new standard for high performance headphones and we are very proud of our work.
Go to your local electronic store to try them, we truly think you will be astonished.
Hearing is believing Sound really matters,
Visit us at www.beatsbydre.com to know more about sound.

We might go on about how good the performance of our Beats by Kim is but the truth is that they are not worth your money. It is more of a fashion item for teens parading around with expensive bling bling. If you are looking forward to make eyes turn by people, these headphones are made for you, but if you are more into making ears smile, then you should go for some other headphones from brands who actually know what sound really is.
These headphones are mostly marketing from Dr Dre and Monster Cable but it is ok because most of your friends will think you are a big music lover who is very into the quality of your music. And not to add how well you will look in them.
As soon as you try some of our samples you will think that the headphones are amazing but that is because you have never tried real high performance headphones at 300$. Go to Bose and you will find some better performance for a lower price. But you will not look as hip as in the beats. Your friends will not be as impressed.
We are all about Cool here at Monster Cable. This is why our beats are sleek, good looking, comfortable, shiny and portable. Why have good headphones when you cannot take them around with you and show your friends. And again, why show your friends headphones which are not worth showing. The beats are worth showing and easy to show. This makes us a big step ahead from other companies.
We (Monster) teamed up with Kim’s knowledge as a leader, icon, and dictator to engineer the best pair of headphones that will be able to sell at a high price for its looks only.

And 3 years of work later not only have we accomplished our goal but we have also even pushed it farther and are designing more headphones that are cool but crappy every day.
After a while of using our headphones you will not fall in love with sound but feel nauseous from our noise canceling technology.
We really think that you should go to your nearest electronics retailer and give them a look, feel them, and then put them on and look at yourself in the mirror; we think you will already be able to see people expression on their face when they see you wearing these.
Kim is very proud to have his name on these headphones. He even likes to wear them; it makes him look younger and cooler than ever. He doesn’t even listen to music; he has a country to rule. But it helps him with the noise cancelation.
Shiny jewelry is what we believe in.

P. 108-116 Relfectiiioooonnn

Anton and his family are at a funeral of a former member of the Resistance. He overhears a man names Take mention that he murdered a man and ask a question about it and then confirms that the man that Take killed was actually Fake Ploeg and he admits that it happened in front of his house. Take goes pale and then takes Anton for a talk away from the table. This is no coincidence it is all about fate. Anton married a girl who's father was friend to the men who shot the bullet that killed his entire family. And also Anton is not the kind of man to look for information about the assault he likes to forget about it and move on. It was a surprise that Anton said that to Take. We can see that they had to meet because of Fate. And also Take is in the same position as Anton, the night of the assault changed his life because his beloved one died that night. He never knew if she loved him back. But fate made Take meet Anton so that they can both get the information that they had been looking for their whole life. The difference is that Anton was not looking for the information when Take was ready to die to get that information. When Take is about to explain himself to Anton, Anton tries to shut Takes mouth because he did not wan to hear it but Take felt like he had to explain himself. Take explained himself by blaming everything on Fake Ploeg and the horrible acts he has made in his past. He is trying to say that what he did to Fake had to happen. That day is described as brilliant. Which means it is very bright, And we can see that Anton had just gained a lot of new understanding on what happend in the night of the assault. The cigarettes are also important because they are forgiveness. They try to make Take forgive about what happen and just move on. The more he is stuck in his past the more he has to smoke.

p. 81-82

Vive la resistance! In page 81-82 of the assault we have a riot against communism happening in Amsterdam and Anton's house is in the middle of the struggle. He is indifferent about the riots and he just wants to go home without having his rooms filled with people holding rocks. But as he gets home he meets an old classmate who happens to be the son of the man who's death killed his family and burned his house. They get into a conversation about what happend and Anton is saying that Fake's dads death was different from Anton's family death because he deserved it unlike his family. Fake gets pissed at Anton and throws the rock at the mirror. This scene is very powerfull because you can see the difference between Fake and Anton in education and at the same time you can see for the first time Anton is talking about his past. He is openly insulting Fake without really wanting to insult him. Anton needs anesthesia the pain from the past is comming back to hurt him. And then he gets a headache because that is what happens to Anton everyime he thinks about that incident that happend in his past. He says it is the sreams of the riots, the broken mirror and the oil everywhere but it actually is because of his discussion with fake which made him remember things he does not like to think about, learn about or wonder about.

Anton is a young boy that is taken away from his family. This part of the book is the last time Anton sees his parents so it has a considerable importance to the story. There are symbols manifesting throughout the text like the lights and the bicycle. But to understand what is happening we need to know more about the context.

It is in the first chapter of the book where the main incident of the book happens. A important person was murdered in Anton's neiborhood and was moved in front of his house. his brother is on the run and he has been seperated from his parents as the military is settting his house on fire. He is getting in a car as he sees his mom and dad for the last time. At that moment he did not know that his parents were going to be murdered but for us a readers we had a few symbols and clues about the upcoming events.

The light is very important in the book. It tells us in what state the antagonist is, anton. If it is dark them most likely Anton is in a desesperate lost place. For example as he saw his mom for the last time in this text. It says he sees his mom further and furher into darkness. His mom is his source of hapiness or we can say his source of light. Without his parents he is being out into a darkness. It also says that flashlishts are being held against the house showing how much hapiness that house is brining andton and burning it lights up all the future hapiness he could have lived in it at once. And he missed it all. All cause of a bicycle.

The nbicycle is a symbol of the night where his life changed. The night he wandered off into darkness. in the text snton looks at the bicyle and it is surounded by frear and darkness to demonstrate or devastatting it is.

This text shows how ligh and darkness is very importatn for the structure of the whole story. The bycicle is also a source of darkness. Anton saw his parents for the last time and entered a car for the first time. Meaning it was the start of a new era. A era where anton would live many new experience he had heard of before but never actually lived.

Tigidou Lay Lay

Film vs Book

It is all about reading between the lines. And in the movie version of the Great Gatsby it is quite hard to do so because it is so different from the book and so similar at the same time. There are motifs which has changed and some motifs which were added. But how does it differ from the book? Well let's start with the vest buckles.

In the movie there is a motif that has been added that was not in the book. That motif is the most important motif in the movie but was never even mentioned in the book. The vest buckles this motif is used to show the theme "Recapture the past". It is something that Daisy gave gatsby in the past when they were together and that he kept on him until death. The importance of those buckles are very well shown in the movie with the large amounts of extreme closups on them.

The car in the movie is not yellow. It was white instead, and this does not change too much the motifs origin but it does if you argue that the color yellow relates the sun and light to the car and then relate it to the motif of Sun and Light. White can also be seen as a bright light color so it is a little bit played around with but does not change the whole motif.

In the movie the light and dark contrast was kept as in the book with the rainy days or the very hot days full of sunlight. It was even easier to visualize because a movie is more visual than a book and also the camera style changed to give a more dramatic view of the scene and the music also helped give a feeling of darkness and sadness into the viewers.

So the movie kept some motifs, changed others slithly and also added a whole new motif but the big idea of the movie was kept the same and the scenes were almost all the same except for the small dialogue changes that the director added to the movie and also a few extra metaphors but it did not hurt the flow of the story one bit.

ESSAY !!! WOOOOOOOOOOO

The Great Gatsby
Nick – East vs. West – Money
If the grass is greener on the other side, you can bet the water bill is higher. In the Great Gatsby this is true, because money makes a difference. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald has a range of characters (Gatsby, Tom, Daisy…), motifs (the green light, the car crash…) and themes (Can you recapture the past? What are we going to do with ourselves…) but I will focus on only on character and tie him to a single theme and a single motif. The character is Nick and he relates very well to Money as a motif and East vs. West as a theme. By using several quotes from the chapter 1-5 I will explore this thesis more in depths.
What brings Nick to the East? After nick graduated from New Heaven he participated in the Great War and he enjoyed the counter-raid so much that for him the West was no more interesting, even though his family is very old money in the west. So he came east to get into the bond business since he already had connections. “Father agreed to finance me for a year, and after the various delays I came East, permanently, I thought, in the spring of twenty-two. P.9” This quote shows that nick is old money, his dad is ready to finance him for a year because they are rich and he can rely on his parents money but this quote also this quotes shows that he left the West thinking he would never go back and it foreshadows that he will come back to the West because the East is not made for him. This fits in the theme East vs. West because people go to the East thinking of a better life, but they always will come back to the West. This quote gives us information about Nick’s monetary situation, and opinions on the West and East.
In the first paragraph Nick tells us a lot about his life, so we can get a lot of information out of it. And at the same time Nick contrasts the difference between the West and the East. For example; “I lived at West Egg, the – well, the less fashionable of the two, though this is a most superficial tag to express the bizarre and not a little sinister contrast between them. P.10” This quote shows the West is a less fashionable place than the East. The East/West egg is a reference to the East and West of America. And here the author uses them to show the difference between those two places. He also says that the west is more sinister then the east and that is because the East is new money so there are more new homes, buildings, schools, etc. But West is old money and there are old family mansions and so on, which ties with the motif; Money and the theme; East vs. West. In this quote Nick is being judgmental as usual, which tells us about his personality.
Nick can be very judgmental, he always judges people and talk about them but never him, this quote is about Jay Gatsby; “His voice was solemn, as if the memory of that sudden extinction of a clan still haunted him. For a moment I suspected that he was pulling my leg, but a glance at him convinced me otherwise. P.64”. This quote shows Nicks over judgmental character. He talks about every single detail even Gatsby’s reactions. It relates to money as a motif because he talks about extinction of a clan. When you talk about a clan you talk about old money, very old money. And this says that Gatsby is the only one left of the clan so he is the owner of very old money. And clans comes from the west, once again this is about how West is mainly old money and east is new money.
Nick is old money and he tells us that he is part of a clan; “The Carraways are something of a clan, and we have a tradition that we’re descended from the Dukes of Buccleuch.”  He is so money that one of his ancestors is a Duke. This quote is once again about how the west life of Nick is very old money. There are no such things as clans on the East only the west so we know that Nick is from the west. This quote is from chapter one. I chose many quotes from chapter one because it is one of the two only chapters where nick talks about himself.
So Nick is very old money and a very judgmental person. He is from the west even though he does not like the west, he moved to the East thinking he will never go back but he ended up going back. Money is something important about Nick because that is the reason all of this is happening because of Money. And Nick is very judgmental about people coming from West or East, or Old or Young money. Money, Nick and East vs. West all tie up together somehow. But maybe the author made it this way because Nick is a reflection of himself.
